African catfish

We breed African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) at our farm in southern Sweden and supply fry and fingerlings to customers worldwide. We offer fish at different life stages to suit your specific production needs.

Since 2021, we have operated a dedicated catfish hatchery based on a Dutch strain provided by Fleuren & Nooijen (Aquaculture ID, Netherlands). We supply both broodstock for hatcheries and fry for grow-out operations.

The African catfish is a warm-water freshwater bottom-dwelling species, originally native to Africa and parts of Asia. It is widely appreciated for its high-quality meat and excellent taste.

This strain has been selectively bred for over 30 years, focusing on key traits such as growth rate, adaptability to farming conditions, and reduced cannibalism.

Although our fish are bred in southern Sweden, African catfish naturally thrive in warm freshwater environments. It is one of the most widely farmed fish species globally. Typically, catfish are grown to a harvest weight of 1.2–1.5 kg, while in our own production we raise them to approximately 2 kg.
